What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion is a heat therapy used in conjunction with Acupuncture. It involved the burning of Mugwort on or near the surface of the body, typically at Acupuncture points, to produce a therapeutic effect. It can be used to warm, ease pain, help prevent illness, and in some cases, help relive fatigue. There are typically 3 ways in which Moxibustion is applied. Direct, Indirect, and Needle.
- Direct Moxibustion is placed directly on the skin or on top of another surface in order to warm a specific point or area.
- Indirect Moxibustion is usually the use of Pole Moxa which are rolled up forms of Mugwort that resemble a large cigar and are waved over a point or area of the body to produce a warming effect.
- Needle Moxibustion is when the Mugwort is placed directly onto the handle of a needle to have a more penetrative warming effect.
